The following paragraphs describe the job and company in detail - and posting this on our website allows you to refer back to this information at any time.
But be prepared - the interview will cover very little about the job itself, and the first 5 questions we will ask you will be to see if you actually read through this Employment page!
The primary concern of most any applicant is financial. So you can discover if the “job” is right for you let's get right to that point; NONE of our service techs make less than $30k….period. You can make a lot more, and most do, but if you simply show up and do nothing more than the jobs we have scheduled for you - then you will easily make $30k a year.
HOWEVER - This job is NOT for everyone. Out of every 50 applications we take we "might" hire 3 - 4. And out of that small handful most will either quit or be let go before the end of the 4 day training period.
IN CONTRAST however - those that stay, historically end up staying with us for many years, and we are notorious for employees leaving to find greener grass - only to return.
So why such a tough job for some, while others don’t want to leave?
** Imagine a job where you were NOT paid the same as everyone else…but paid based entirely on your hard work. (no, it's not a "sales" position).
** Imagine being, like our current staff, in your 20s or 30s, with no college degree or special skills - and having job where you got a 3 day weekend off every 45 days, 2 WEEKS off at Christmas…and even with all of that time off STILL make $35k a year.
** Imagine a job where your “boss” didn’t watch your every move and you not only didn’t hate the boss, but actually recognized how much was done “for you” to make sure that you did well.
** Imagine never being at the same task for more than couple hours - working hard, but never having to sell anything or having to deal with the financial feast or famine that comes with a commission job.
** Imagine getting to work by yourself, outside vs. standing at a counter or sitting at the same desk all day long…and if you were not working by yourself you were at least working alongside people with the same kind of work ethic.

Once the field training evaluation is complete and your benchmarks have been met you will be tested to make sure you have full and working knowledge of your additional responsibilities.
Upon completion of your 4th day in the field you will sit down in our office and be given information on 2 specific and separate work orders.
For the first work order you will need to be able to…
· Write out driving directions to the jobsite using the Window Works Map
· Properly count the # of windows on the house (from photos)
· Create an actual hand written invoice from scratch
· Calculate and Apply a Cash Discount
· Split labor credits for multiple employees
For the 2nd work order you will need to…
· Adjust a work order invoice from 40 Exterior to a Minimum Order - cleaning 8 exterior, a Normal Chandelier and 2 ceiling fans
· Show Labor and Travel Credits
· Exhibit knowledge on how to accept a Credit Card
Once you have completed the written test, you will then be instructed on how to handle some of the more uncommon, but occasional things that you may come across in the field…
· Solar Film
· Security Screens
· Fresh Paint
· Hard Water Deposits
· Stained or Leaded Glass
· Broken Windows and Broken Seals
From there, you are ready to go on your on, and start making the income you deserve.
There are 4 appointments per day, scheduled at 8am, 10am, Noon and 2pm. Some jobs you will be by yourself, other (larger) jobs you may be working with 4-5 employees....all depending on the size of the job and routing. Appointments are pre set, but if you want more and have shown you are capable of doing more, then all you have to do is ask.
Although you get paid "by the window", the income is amazingly consistent, not to mention tips from customers - and quarterly bonuses that range from $550 to over $1000.
What is the actual pay? That is actually the hardest question about the job to answer - primarily because there can be such a large divergence between employees. Some employees show up every day and do a good job, but just don't desire to work "that hard" - while others will take as much as they can possibly get. Clearly there is large income difference between the two, but again that says far more about the individual than it does about the job itself.
In short, if you just show up everyday and do nothing more than what is scheduled for you - it’s almost impossible NOT to make $30k.
The true bottom line is that for those who are responsible, like to work hard and can manage their time this is a great opportunity to FINALLY have an income not based on luck or the discretion of some insensitive boss, but rather an income that is 100% directly related to your personal effort - without having to work 6-7 days a week and never have time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
As to the actual job itself, you can learn most everything you need to know about properly cleaning a window in 30 minutes or less. Becoming “proficient” at the job however (especially if you are not experienced on a ladder) can take a few days, which is why we provide a full 4 day paid training period. And if you follow to the letter the instruction and guidance of your trainer - your learning curve will be incredibly short.

The company would never expect that after 4 days a new hire could be up to the same caliber and speed as the trainer (who has cleaned at a bare minimum 50,000 windows or more). We have found over time though, that if at the end of 4 days you cannot meet certain benchmarks in production - for whatever the reason, that this is probably not the right job for you.
Those benchmarks are as follows;
At the end of 4 days, without supervision or assistance, you must be able to…
· Properly Clean a minimum of 18-25 Exterior windows in 1 hour
· Properly Clean a minimum of 12-15 Interior windows in 1 hour
· Properly Clean a Normal Chandelier (no disassembly)
· Properly clean a Ceiling Fan with light kit
Those minimum requirements are FAR below company average, and at the end of the training period if an employee is unable to meet those minimums, then it will be clear to everyone involved that this is not the right job for you.
The goal of your trainer is to not just teach you “how to clean”, but “how to be proficient”. There are also other aspects and responsibilities to the job that you will witness him perform each and every day and on each and every job.
You will be given a list of what those responsibilities are, but in the end it will be entirely your responsibility to observe and then to ask questions in order to actually learn those job requirements.
This is important, because making available, but not “offering” information tells us a great deal about whether you are actually interested in the job. We are looking specifically for those who are self motivated enough to learn things you have been told you need to know and will be tested on. If you fail that test, then the likelihood you will do well here is very slim - at which time, without exception - your employment and any further training will cease.
The same holds true if you consistently run late to work. We are NOT your Wake Up Service, and if you are not responsible enough to show up for work -on time- to complete the work that we have scheduled "for you"..... well, you get the idea.
It also needs to be repeated that if you (like many) are simply looking for "a job" where you can just show up and collect a check….please take our strong and candid advice to continue looking elsewhere for employment - because this is definitely not for you.
Window Works is simply a good, solid company to work for AND a place where you can make what you are truly worth. To a very large degree you alone dictate how much you make - without the feast / famine aspect that usually accompanies a straight commission job. Everything is provided - the training, the jobs - even company trucks and equipment…and you don’t have to sell a thing. Just go to the jobs we already have (preset) and enjoy the rewards of being one of the few who still understands what responsibility and good work ethic actually means.
Here are some of the job highlights;
To be clear, you are an EMPLOYEE, not a subcontractor. The company handles your taxes, and provides everything you need.... Trucks, equipment and the JOBS. This is also a true Service Position. You make more by doing more work - not by scamming someone into buying something they don't need.
We work Monday through Friday and every other Saturday during April, May, October and November (our busiest months). And although we work VERY hard, we play hard as well and are closed for a 3 day weekend every 5 -7 weeks!
Do not misunderstand - just because we focus on money does NOT mean this is a cut-throat or dog-eat-dog environment - on the contrary. You find out very quickly that working here is far more like being on a sports team or in a military squad - where you willingly watch each other’s backside - because the next person who needs help could easily be you! In the end we are all (both company and employees) working for the same goal - and if we somehow end up hiring someone who does not have that mindset, they get fired - and fast.
So what is required of you? There ARE certain production benchmarks you must meet, but as you will discover there is only one reason a person does not meet those basic requirements - and it has nothing to do with the job itself.
Again, this is a job that is entirely setup to see that YOU do well. This is NOT a "body shop", where we hire more bodies than we need and let the employees fight for the work. Instead we schedule jobs "for you", and do everything humanly possible to make sure that YOU do well.
That may sound really great....but there is a catch.
The tradeoff is that as a company we have absolutely -0- tolerance for typical employee nonsense. If you have a habit of "calling in sick" for example, then we have to scramble to cover your workload because jobs have been scheduled "for you".
So are you the “right type” of employee? You probably already know that answer, but if you are still not sure then consider this; Aside from the money - there are only 3 reasons why people apply for this job. Either you...
** Enjoy working hard and on your own, getting paid what you are worth and not being stuck in an "office".....or
** Can’t find the job you really want....or
** Simply need "a job" so you can eat and pay bills.
Be Prepared - if you come close to either of the last 2 - applying for a job here will be a total waste of time. Even if you did somehow manage to slip through the interview process and get hired, it would be a miracle if you lasted even one week...and the reason is very simple. Everyone here is has a strong work ethic and strong desire to do well financially. This is an incredible place to work if that sounds like you - but if you are just looking for "a job" - lean a little toward the lazy side or are apathetic about work (and you already know if you are), then you will be a drain on those around you and in return they (with our blessings) will make your life here a living nightmare until you quit or get fired.
In fact Window Works probably has the most integrated employee-employer relationship you will ever find in a “job”.
Unlike most, we are completely geared up to see that YOU do well - because quite frankly when YOU do well, then WE do well - and if for no other reason than our own self interest - we want to see that each employee does as well as possible!
Let’s be honest - this is a Service job. We are not here for the prestige or glory, or to have a fancy job title that will impress anyone, but rather for the more serious fundamental reasons:
We enjoy the work, and we LOVE the money!
And making $30-$40k with lots of time off, and having no college or special skills - is certainly a serious job.
Our employees will tell you that this is actually an EASY job - and for them, it is. But they are unique, because history has taught us that MOST people simply cannot function in life without having a boss, a parent or a spouse tell them specifically what to do or when to do it. The bottom line is that this is a HORRIBLE job for people who cannot manage themselves or their time - but an easy, well paying job for those who can.
Each day our employees come in, get their preset work orders and head out the door. The “catch” is that they need to be able to watch their time, pace themselves, work with others, handle customers, do a good quality job and get to the next job on time - WITHOUT someone watching their every move or telling them what to do every 5 minutes. The payoff for having those qualities - is that you get to work for a company that treats you very well, AND you get to enjoy a serious income based purely on your personal efforts.
So what kind of people do we hire?
You would probably be very surprised. Although some are quiet and some are loud they ALL have one common characteristic; they are responsible, hard working people who desire to be recognized (and paid accordingly) for their personal efforts.
And even without a college degree, special skills or working bizarre hours - through this job they have found a great place to achieve just that.
As to the company, Window Works has been in business for 26 years so we are clearly not a start-up or fly-by-night company. We service 100-120 homes each week and stay booked ahead 7-10 days. Even in these tough economic times have never once laid off employees due to lack of work.
We are known for running a good, ethical business, but in truth our success and longevity are based almost entirely on our ability to find the "right type" of employee. By now it should be obvious that we think very highly of our staff and are very protective of them - looking specifically to hire only those who will "fit in" and compliment them. We simply do not hire "warms bodies" - and certainly do not allow bad employees to chase off good ones.
Our staff really appreciates that attitude - and if you worked here, you would too.
Window Works ONLY accepts applications in person.
We do NOT accept phone applications,
We do NOT conduct phone interviews
and certainly do NOT hire from resumes via email.
We want to meet you - in person, and for you to meet us!

Fortunately you do not have to “imagine” a job like that - because THIS is that job. It is in fact a wonderful job, for some. But the hard core reality is that a job like this not only requires, but demands a great deal of responsibility and good work ethic - which unfortunately is as foreign to most people these days as quantum physics…and THAT is the reason only "some" people do well here.
